Say hello to our favourite potato! Papas is the head instructor at Lunazul, and an inspiration to many who visit Sayulita Beach. He’s worked for Lunazul for 10 years, and teaches surfing and SUP (Stand Up Paddle) lessons. Papas says the best thing about his job is seeing his students learn and evolve, becoming more confident surfers right before his eyes. Did we mention he is the National Champion in SUP surfing?
Besides being a fearless waterman, and rad human being, Papas has a heart as big as a whale. You will soon see why everyone, from young children to surfing mamacita's, fall in love with Papas. He's a keeper! Check his video out!
“Papas was my instructor and so thorough, informative and attentive. I got up my first try and almost every attempt during my lesson, because of the excellent instruction and guidance from Papas.” TripAdvisor customer comment, November 11, 2012

Chito, aka "Negro Sanchez", is the realest dude you'll meet on Sayulita Beach. A father of two young girls, devoted husband, and surfer, Chito is the guy you can always count on, which speaks volumes in Sayulita. From helping customers get the cheapest price for a cab or boat tour, to ensuring they'll stay out of trouble in the water, Chito to the rescue!
Born in San Pancho, and raised in Bucerias, Chito's presence both calms and grounds the other staff members at Lunazul, and his "chill" attitude is valued greatly by all those who interact with him on the beach.
Probably because it's his favourite place to be, when he's not with his family, the beach vibe is the essence of Chito.
Beach Captain/ Surf Instructor
Meet Memo. Also known as “Osito Panda” (Panda Bear). Memo is our Beach Captain, with the very important position of overseeing all Lunazul happenings on the beach. From help with beach chairs, assistance reading the day's surf conditions, to picking you the perfect board, Memo is the go-to-guy.

Hailing from nearby Bucerías, Eduardo is the strong, silent type with a wicked sense of humour, when he does talk! Growing up big wave boogie boarding, Eduardo has no fear when it comes to introducing his students to heavier waves, of course when he sees they are ready. HIs consistency and loyalty to Lunazul Surf School, and his fellow instructors and team, is admirable, and we´re stoked he joined the family.
Born in Tijuana, raised in Riviera Nayarit, Carlos is known for his patience in the water, making his students request him again and again for their surf lessons! Also a great short boarder, Carlos can be found surfing all of the breaks in Riviera Nayarit in his free time, adding to his already full surf instructor tool kit with Lunazul Surf School.
This Canadian transplant let her passion for the Ocean and outdoor activity, keep her in Sayulita long term. A Yoga practioner since the age of 17, Leah's passion for teaching, practicing, and all forms of movement, has kept her heart happy for two seasons near the sea.
An avid surfer, and paddleboarder, Leah offers her broad skill set with Lunazul through teaching paddleboarding, surfing and SUP Yoga, and co-ordinating surf/sup/yoga retreats year around, with Eva Estlander.
Leah's passion for dance is also fulfilled here in Sayulita, so if you love to dance, join her at Monday Night Salsa at Don Pedro's. She never misses a week!
Photographer / Videographer
Born and raised in Mexico City, Javier´s passion for adventure, photography and film brought him to the beaches of Riviera Nayarit to try his hand at surf photography and filming for Lunazul Surf School. And what happens when you work for a surf school? You fall in love with surfing! As would be expected, Javier is now an avid surfer.

Having lived as a professional surfer for a decade plus, Kalle now spends his days passing on the surf stoke to the next generation. Surfing since the age of 9, Kalle provides detailed instruction while teaching, helping people of all ages improve as surfers. Whether it's learning how to execute bigger airs, or paddling out for the first time, Kalle's gentle yet firm guidance gives students the confidence they need to take their surfing next level.
His absolute love for surfing is contagious, and his focus on water saftey is as inspiring, as it is important. Kalle is fluent in Spanish, English and Finnish, giving his instruction more versatility, and hopefully reaching more surfers worldwide!
“I've had surfing lessons before and the experience with Kalle has been the best!! He is able to see those little details that will make the difference when you are inside the water trying to get [a] wave.” TripAdvisor customer comment, October 22, 2013
